Environmental Science
Environmental Science is the study of the natural environment and how humans interact with that environment. This course will approach this topic from several angles that are used in the North Carolina Envirothon competition such as:
Basic Ecological Principles
Water study
Soil study
Forestry
Current Environmental Issues
Wildlife
We will also be learning about the roots of the environmental movement and the ways that humans negatively impact the environment around them. Possible solutions to current environmental problems will be discussed.
In addition to lectures and class discussion, students will complete projects, carry out lab experiments, attend field trips, and read internet and magazine articles. Grades will be determined by assessing the quality of projects, performance on tests, and participation in activities. Any work to be turned in should be the work of the individual student (unless otherwise specified by me) as described in the GDS Honor Code.
Projects:
Research prominent persons in the early environmental unit- Presentation by powerpoint.
Research a national park
Research a majoor ecological biome
