SPRING- 2008
COMPUTER APPLICATIONS
This course is an introduction to computers and the software applications of Word, Excel, Power Point, Adobe Photoshop, Dreamweaver, and Flash.
It is a project based course, so students will have to spend time out of class working. Most importantly the students have to be more self directed in time management. The only way to learn the programs is to use them :)

Dreamweaver
While using Dreamweaver we will make a class portfolio and a website. We will study webdesign in terms of organization, "look", audience, theme, and purpose as well as how to use the various tools of Dreamweaver.
2-- The website will contain at least 7 pages all interconnected with a common theme. The student will be graded on using the tools as well as "design" and intricacy of the project. The student must use layers, tables, links, buttons, backgrounds, css, insert pictures and text. due Monday, April 7
1-- A web portfolio. Create an index page which contains a table of all of the class assignments. Link to each assignment. The student will learn the basics of Dreamweaver-- tables, background, linking, and syncronizing sites. due Friday, March 7
Adobe Photoshop
Over the course of the next month we will learn- how to "fix" scanned and digital images. With the inages we will manipulate coloring, texture, shape, and placement using Photoshop tools such as layering and filtering. We have several projects imbedded into the lesson.
3-- The CD label project.
Make a cd label that is well designed. The challenge is to design in a circle that also has a hole in the middle.
Use all of your photoshop skills (see below).
Create a round image.
2-- Class Promo Project. DUE Monday, March 5
This is a poster that will be the size of 81/2 x 11 (a regular sheet of paper).
The poster should let us know why you chose the class/teacher and why we would want to take the class.
You will be graded on use of tools/ artistry, communicating the purpose of the poster.
Use the following techniques/tools/items

blending of several layers
eye dropper/ blending of colors
skills learned during scarecrow project
1--The scarecrow project. DUE Monday, Feb 26
Create a "scarecrow" from pictures. You may use scanned photos and downloaded pictures from the Interenet. Creativity is encouraged. You must include all body parts (hands, feet, hair, etc.)
You need to use at least 10 pictures to complete your assignment.
The "step log" (link beloew) must be filled out along with your scarecrow.
Demonstrate the following skills:

Save in proper format when done (jpg please!)
Windows Movie Maker-Project Due- Wed., Feb 7th
Make a 2 minute movie with picture and/or video, sound and captions using windows Movie Maker.

This is an autobiographical powerpoint of at least 10 slides, including a title page.
The Powerpoint must include pictures, animated text/pictures, transitions, and apply design techniques.
Word: We will cover Word beyond the basics. Project--Due Thursday, Jan 18. You must complete 20 of the 25. In a word document you must explain and show how to use the functions.
